FARGO (KFGO) – Cass County Finance Director Mike Montplaisir says there have been very few returned mail-in ballots that have arrived at the courthouse with postage due. The ballots are in larger than normal envelopes, but do not require additional postage.
“You know there hasn’t been, it has never been paid in the past, it’s kind of funny because people will drive several miles to come and drop it in the drop box at the courthouse and some of it is they don’t trust the mail system and some of it is, well I’m not going to waste that money on a stamp, of course it costs them more than that to drive it over here,” said Montplaisir.
Cass County mailed-out about 37,000 ballots and around 6,500 have been returned.
Montplaisir says other North Dakota counties may have ballots that require more than one stamp.
Minnesota ballots are pre-paid and do not need a stamp.
