(KNFL/KFGO) – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks would move up to 28-27 after taking the series opener against the Gary SouthShore RailCats at Newman Outdoor Field on Monday night. This game is the first of a four game series against the RailCats. The RedHawks would start left-hander Patrick Wicklander and the RailCats would start left-hander Dawson Lane.
The RailCats would grab the first run of this game with a Colin Summerhill sacrifice fly that gave the RailCats a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
The RedHawks would get that one run back in the bottom of the third thanks to an Aiden Byrne solo home run that knotted up the game 1-1.
In the fourth inning, the RedHawks would add three more runs to that total. The first run of the inning would come from a wild pitch that would score Dillon Thomas. Andy Nelson would drive in one more on a fielders choice that made it 3-1. Brian Fuentes would be the last to touch the plate for the RedHawks in the fourth, scoring from third on an error.
The top of the fifth would see the RailCats rally back into this game. Korry Howell struck first for the RailCats in the inning, hitting a solo home run. Shortly after, Colin Summerhill tied the game with a two run home run to tie the game back up 4-4.
That lead would be shortlived with Jose Sermo coming up in the bottom of the fifth inning for the RedHawks where he would hit his seventh home run in the last four games. In the sixth inning, Fargo-Moorhead added one more on a Juan Fernandez RBI single.
Nick Podkul would then tie the game up again with a 2 RBI single with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh.
The final run of the game would come in the bottom of the seventh, when Jose Sermo would take home on a wild pitch from Erasmo Ramirez crating our final score of 7-6.
The Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks starter Patrick Wicklander would go 5.0 innings giving up 4 earned runs. Reliever Parker Harm would grab the win and closer Tyler Jeans would get his 11th save of the season.
The Gary SouthShore RailCats starter went 5.0 innings giving up 4 earned runs and striking out 8. Reliever Erasmo Ramirez would be credited with the loss.
