Grace Opal McEvers (Bredemeier) was born on August 26, 1932, in Moorhead, MN to Alfred and Oma (Slyter) Bredemeier. She was the youngest of five daughters. Grace attended 1st grade at the country school ¾ miles NW of the farm. The rest of her schooling was in Barnesville, MN. She graduated from Barnesville High School in 1950.
Grace married Wayne McEvers on March 28, 1953, in a double wedding with her sister, Lois and Elton Klug. Grace and Wayne had three sons, Douglas, Larry, and David. She was an active member in the St. James Church, singing in the choir, playing the organ and piano. Grace spent many springs working at Thompson Greenery alongside her best friend, Eileen Thompson. She also worked at Gambles Hardware and was a Clay County Assessor for four townships.
Grace was an avid gardener and had many beautiful flower beds. Much of the garden produce was preserved. Grace and Wayne also traveled to several locations, often traveling with Al and Lois Klug. They went on cruises including to Alaska, St. Lawrence Seaway, and several to the Caribbean. They also took several trips to the sunbelt in the winter. Grace lived her entire life on the family farm homesteaded in 1880 by her grandfather, Chris Bredemeier and grandmother, Marie.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Oma Bredemeier; her husband, Wayne; son, David; and sisters, Ruth Schindler and Mary Ann Bourque.
Grace is survived by sons, Douglas McEvers and Larry (Mary) McEvers; grandchildren, Dane (Jessica) McEvers and Desiree (Kyle) Froslie; six great-grandchildren: Owen, Thomas, and Kate Froslie, Eloise, Edith, and Frederick McEvers; and sisters, Ruby Sunderland and Lois Klug.
Grace O. McEvers, age 93, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026, in her home in rural Barnesville.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will begin at 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 18, 2026, with a Celebration of Grace’s Life at 2:00 PM, in Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, Moorhead, MN with Rev. Jim Wilson officiating. She will be laid to rest Rosemound Cemetery, Barnesville, MN.
