DULUTH, Minn. – With the proposed Sanford Health-Fairview Health System merger off, there’s another major health system consolidation under discussion in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Duluth-based Essentia Health may join with Wisconsin-based Marshfield Clinic Health System to form what executives call “a new integrated regional health system servicing rural and mid-urban communities across four states.”
The proposed merger would combine Essentia’s system, which stretches from Bismarck through Fargo and central Minnesota to the Iron Range and Duluth. The Marshfield system, covers most of the northern 2/3s of Wisconsin except for the far northeast, plus several communities in southeastern Wisconsin and on Michigan’s Upper Penninsula.
The proposed merger would require regulatory approval.
