ST. PAUL, Minn. – Governor Tim Walz says he’s trying every day to convince Republican lawmakers to return to Saint Paul for a special session to help Minnesotans struggling with high prices.
The Democratic governor suggests that Minnesota has the opportunity to provide tax rebates to citizens, something he says other states have done, including states run by Republicans.
But Minnesota Senate Republicans have shown little interest in a special session. Majority Leader Jeremy Miller earlier called the renewed push for rebate checks a “desperate attempt by the governor to distract voters from his record of higher taxes.”
Walz predicts Republicans will be more open to a special session after the August 9 primary election.
