FARGO (KFGO) – Deputy Fargo Police Chief Todd Osmundson has resigned. Osmundson had been placed on unpaid leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation related to his actions during rioting downtown Saturday night.
Osmundson was seen among the crowd, not in uniform. He said he was doing intelligence work, but had not informed superiors of what he was doing.
“When I went behind the scenes to basically, you know, at the end of the day to protect lives of people and was off script, that is unacceptable,” Osmundson told KFGO reporter Don Haney. “I’ve been around, that is unacceptable, I lost our officers trust and the community trust, so as a deputy chief, the accountability is high and once you lose that trust you can’t get it back,” he added.
Chief Dave Todd said he considered it a serious matter. He said having a member of his command team act on their own, working independently was unacceptable and dangerous.
Osmundson had been with the police department 31 years.
