Just a few weeks ago, I used to long for a quiet weekend, now I have them served up in spades. But what to do after some housework, a board game, and a workout? I think we’re all a little tired of laying around watching TV and cleaning out closets.
I have compiled a list of low-tech boredom busters.
-
Take a bath. With a half a bottle of bubble bath, some great tunes, and a locked door.
-
Do a really hard puzzle. At least 1000 pieces.
-
Unearth a craft or other project from the depths.
-
Sort Legos. By set, color, whatever.
-
Upcycle something. Dig through the recycling bin, the garage, or the basement and find a treasure that needs a new life. But only if you can do it without going to the store for anything.
-
Color. The internet abounds in free images to suit any taste.
-
Fix stuff. Sew holes in pants, nail down a baseboard that keeps popping off, touch up scuffs on walls. But no trips to the store for supplies.
-
Teach your kids to do something toward their independence. Basic cooking skills, changing a tire, chess, carpentry, window washing…
-
Write a letter or send a card to a friend, a teacher, a loved one in a nursing home, your neighbor, anyone. And then write another one.
-
Be still. Do nothing. Just as we each had to learn how to be busy as kids grew and life progressed, we are now trying to relearn the art of being still. Give it a whirl and see how it goes.
Would you rather do something techy on the computer? See this list.
