Homelessness in Fargo
The Fargo-Moorhead Coalition to End Homelessness, in collaboration with United Way of Cass-Clay,
released its “State of Homelessness in Fargo-Moorhead Metro” report to the community and the statistics weren’t surprising to people like Rob Swiers,
New Life Center
Executive Director.
Swiers says, “It’s sad, not surprising.”
The study released says there are over 1,000 people on any given night experiencing homelessness and over 400 students in our public school system that identify as homeless.
Homelessness is often not the result of one circumstance, but many. And, the goal of a study like this is to not only help the professionals helping those in need be strategic about their programs, but to make the public aware.
The only way programs like the New Life Center, Churches United and the YWCA thrive and function as they need to, is by the help of the community.
“Just show up”
Rob Swiers says, “just show up,” figuratively and literally. Getting involved is as easy as donating your time and getting to know the agencies at the forefront of the solutions.
… and Rob put his money where his mouth is! He showed up with shoes from the New Life Center thrift store to help us in our collection “Back on Your Feet, It Takes Shoes!”
KFGO & It Takes 2 started a collection of gently used running shoes to help RADD (Runners Against Destructive Decisions), a program started by a North Dakota district court Judge to try to stop the cycle of addiction, crime and jail.
