Amy Iler and JJ Gordon usually tell you what to See, Stream or Skip but this week they’ve cooked up something special. Movies that feature GREAT soundtracks! A few callers added their opinions – any ideas on some listener favorites we missed?
THE WEDDING SINGER
This soundtrack is a love letter to the 1980s. Great music with lots of synth mix with some original tunes, like a cover of the Sugarhill Gang classic “Rapper’s Delight” featuring a funny old lady as well as an Adam Sandler original…that JJ is including in his own wedding!
FORREST GUMP
Songs that take you through the 1950s, the Vietnam Era and the 70s. Music is as big of a character as Forrest. The sounds of the people create a nostalgic feeling and bring out some huge emotions.
ALMOST FAMOUS
Tiny Dancer by Elton John – it will forever be associated with the band’s old bus. Amazing stuff. Oh yeah, Stillwater, the fictional band, rock out their tune “Fever Dog”
SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER
Folks had this album on vinyl, as an 8-track, a cassette tape, a CD and probably downloaded some Bee Gees MP3s too. I can’t walk down a street without thinking about swinging a paint can and singing “You can tell by the way I use my walk….”
DIRTY DANCING
One of the best soundtracks of all time. Part 1950s, part 1980s. Whether you cry every time you hear Patrick Swayze’s “She’s Like the Wind” or have always wanted to try the lift at the end of the movie – Dirty Dancing has a soundtrack people will still be buying in 2050.
