GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KFGO) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol has closed I-29 from Exit 141 and Exit 145 at Grand Forks due to flooding. The storm caused tornado sirens to sound in Fargo-Moorhead Friday night.
Vince Godon with the National Weather Service says Grand Forks and the surrounding areas “really got slammed.” Along the Canadian border from Pembina, North Dakota to Roseau, Minnesota was pummeled with golf ball-sized hail and got 2-5 inches of rain.
The City of Grand Forks got 5.29 inches of rain.
A flood warning is in effect until 3:30 p.m. Saturday for urban areas and small streams in Northern Cass County, Grand Forks, Griggs County, Northern Barnes County, Walsh County, Nelson County, Traill County, and Eddy County.
Minnesota Counties under a flood warning are Western Norman County, Pennington County, Marshall County, Western Red Lake County, Polk County, North Western Beltrami County.
The National Weather Service says the communities of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks, Thief River Falls, Grafton, Crookston, and Mayville will experience flooding Saturday.
The storm is expected to bring severe weather Saturday to Minnesota, from the Twin Cities on north.
Other roadways closed:
- ND 200 from Hurdsfield to US 52 Junction ( approximately 15 miles) from mile marker 254 to 268. Motorists need to use alternate routes.
- US Highway 52 east of Sykeston, near ND 30 Junction at mile marker 208. Motorists need to use alternate routes.
- US 52 south of Fessenden, near ND 15 Junction at mile marker 186. Motorists need to use alternate routes.
