FARGO (KFGO) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified those involved in a serious crash that injured four men Sunday night on University Drive in Fargo.
Troopers say Elijah Baumann, 24, of Moorhead was going the wrong way on University Drive while fleeing law enforcement and under the influence of alcohol when he struck a motorcycle driven by Isaac Putney, 19, of Fargo. Both suffered life threatening injuries in the crash.
Two passengers in Baumann’s car were injured, Keniel Mercado, 23, and Ty Smith, 21. Both men are from Fargo.
A third vehicle was hit in the crash. Its driver, Frederick Jallah, 29, of Fargo was not injured.
Baumann has been charged with numerous felonies in connection to the crash, troopers are asking for charges including DUI, reckless endangerment and criminal vehicular injury. The Cass County Sheriff’s office says it would also like to charge Baumann with fleeing, reckless endangerment and driving under suspension.
The sheriff’s office tied Baumann to a street racing group known as 701’s Most Wanted Crew, saying he was either associated with or a supporter of the group. The group has denied any ties to Baumann.
A go-fund-me page says Putney is in critical condition, lost his left leg below the knee and shattered his arm. A link to the go-fund-me page can be found here.
