WAHPETON, ND (KFGO) – A man has been charged with murder in the stabbing death Monday night of a 37-year-old Wahpeton man.
The Richland County State’s Attorneys office has charged Adam Awender in the death of Billy Joe Phillips. Phillips was stabbed in the leg and chest and was dead when police arrived.
The complaint says Awenda admitted to the stabbing but claimed that it was in self-defense. The stabbing took place at an apartment where Phillips lived with a woman. Police say Awender told investigators that he threw the knife in a dumpster and washed his clothes.
Its believed Awender and Phillips were dating the same woman.
