Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN)
WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Angie Craig is sponsoring legislation that would withhold pay for members of congress in the case of a federal government shutdown.
Craig said more than 800,000 federal employees were furloughed during the 2018-2019 government shutdown including 6,000 in Minnesota. The bill is named the McCarthy Shutdown Act after Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
“It’s ridiculous that we still get paid while folks like TSA workers are asked to work without a paycheck,” Craig said.
Speaker McCarthy said he’s working to get GOP members to support a temporary funding bill to prevent a federal government shutdown.
