GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Eight different North Dakota State players collected base hits as the Bison defeated Longwood University 8-2 at the Florida Bubly Invitational at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium on Sunday, Feb. 16. NDSU finished 3-2 at the tournament.
NDSU (4-5) opens with Weber State (3-6) at the Texas Invitational on Friday, Feb. 21.
Longwood (3-6) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on Lauren Taylor’s RBI single. However, North Dakota State answered when Lauren Reimers delivered a two-out, two-run single to put the Bison ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the frame.
The Lancers tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the second on a Casey Carr run-scoring single. And again, the Bison replied with two outs, this time when Madyson Camacho singled and Stephanie Soriano tripled to right to give NDSU a 3-2 advantage.
North Dakota State batted around and scored four times in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 7-2. Camacho had a RBI infield single, Soriano knocked in a pair of runs and Sam Koehn hit a RBI single. Koehn added another run-scoring hit in the sixth.
The Bison matched a season-high with 13 hits led by Soriano, who went 3 for 4. Avery Wysong, Camacho and Koehn each had two hits. Sydney Jacobsen led Longwood with two hits.
Paige Vargas (3-2) found her rhythm after a bumpy start for the complete game win. Vargas allowed six hits, struck out four and walked one. Arleigh Wood (1-3) took the loss for the Lancers. Wood struck out two and walked three.
