Nicholas Poitra
EDDY COUNTY, NORTH DAKOTA – (KFGO) – A warrant has been issued for a murder suspect believed to be armed and “extremely dangerous” after a shooting in Sheyenne, North Dakota.
Nicholas Poitra, 45, is wanted in the fatal shooting of Troyal Thumb, 30, inside Rindy’s Bar Sunday evening. The two were acquaintances and had an argument.
Eddy County Sheriff Paul Lies says Poitra took out a gun and shot Thumb. There were other people in the bar at the time.
Authorities are receiving some tips but Lies says “nothing is panning out.” He says they are “desperately looking for information from the public” to find Poitra.
Poitra stole a vehicle at gunpoint as he fled from the bar and it was found abandoned near a farm in Wells County. The farm was searched but nobody was home. A number of firearms were found at the farm and authorities are still working to determine whether any of those guns were taken.
Poitra is facing 11 charges including murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a short-barreled shotgun, seven counts of terrorizing, and robbery.
Lies says if anyone comes into contact with Poitra, or has information on his whereabouts, they should contact law enforcement immediately.
