We laid to rest our co-worker & friend Travis Dunn this week and I wanted to share a little about the man behind the smile, hockey insight and the legacy which will live on.
Last spring as my wife and I were walking through the park near the Elementary school their end of the year picnic/fun night was taking place. Kids and families enjoying the sun, games and food as the school year was winding down. The crowd was thick but off in the distance I saw Travis. He’s easy to spot. He stands out in a crowd physically and his personality shines.
I wondered what would bring him out to West Fargo? Knowing the age of his kids and they lived in Minneapolis and Denver made me wonder, “what was he doing there?” I texted him and he said, “long story I’ll tell you sometime”
As we all know in life “sometime” becomes too late. And I never found out…until Thursday.
After a long hug with Rosie and shedding some tears with his son and daughter I asked Rose, “…can you finish the story?”
Wiping the tears away she began to relate how they had taken in a refugee family some years ago and as this family adjusted Rise and Travis became local “grandparents” to this family and their kids.
To the point of attending the families kids elementary school activities for love and support.
Travis Dunn…more than a hockey player. Husband, Dad, friend, grandparent. A true man on and off the radio and ice.
You are missed but your legacy remains and lives on #RIP
