FARGO (KFGO-KVRR) — Protesters gathered in Fargo as part of the nationwide May Day Protest.
Members of Red River United Indivisible and North Dakota AFL hosted the protest at Broadway Square.
Many held signs protesting for workers’ rights and standing up against politicians like Doug Burgum. Others protested billionaires’ involvement and ties to the Trump administration.
Speakers at the event said this year’s protest was meant to stand for the workers in times of politicians pushing them aside.
“It is a little upsetting that we’re in another Robber Baron era. But it’s also great to see that just like in the 1880’s, people are willing to come together and stand together to protest it,” said Ashley Gaschk, President, North Dakota AFL-CIO.
The nationwide May Day protest is a recognition of the original protest that took place in Chicago in May 1886.
