The ice fishing season has ended for much of the state. Few fishing reports are available as anglers turn their attention to fishing Minnesota’s open waters — it won’t be long!
Anglers need to be extremely cautious on and around the ice since conditions can change rapidly, sometimes in a matter of hours. Anyone considering one last ice fishing trip should watch this

Minnesota fishing opener dates for the 2022-2023 fishing season for most inland waters are as follows: Stream trout: April 16; walleye, sauger, northern pike, bass (catch-and-release) and lake trout: May 14; muskie: June 4. The fishing season for crappies, sunnies, perch and catfish is continuous. The walleye and sauger season for Minnesota waters that border Canada remains open until April 14.

Northwest RegionAt the time of this report, ice conditions are very poor and unpredictable in the Detroit Lakes vicinity. On Lake of the Woods, a few ice anglers continue to venture in pursuit of northern pike. Successful anglers have been using tip-ups and dead bait in 10-20 feet of water.
