FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – NDSU President Dean Bresciani has issued a personal apology and outlined actions that are taking place in response to recent hate speech, social media incidents on campus, and how the university is working to improve the racial climate. He called the past two weeks “tumultuous.”
The plan of actions underway includes an active investigation by the Equity Office into the incidents that have been reported. An external consultant has been hired to assist.
The Dean of Students is reviewing the student code of conduct with updates expected by the end of spring 2021.
Diversity and cultural competency training will be provided for all incoming students beginning next fall. A 15-member task force has also been organized that is due to complete a preliminary report in January about ways to make the university more diverse and inclusive.
Bresciani also said he also met with student activists who have identified “shared goals” to work on.
He calls the actions “just a beginning.”
Earlier this month, hundreds of students and members of Black Lives Matter took to the sidewalks and streets around the NDSU campus to denounce the racist messages.
