VALLEY CITY, N.D. (KFGO/KVRR) — The man who was hit while walking along I-94 and found dead in a ditch has been identified as 27-year-old Jerson Mejia of Honduras.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol has also released images of part of a vehicle that was left at the scene and pieced back together.
Troopers say Mejia was hit sometime late Saturday night about eight miles west of Valley City.
A trooper stopped and talked to him around 11 p.m. on Dec. 20 and he declined help. A passerby noticed his body in the ditch on Sunday afternoon around 2:30 p.m.
Investigators say a bug deflector was found near Mejia’s body, along with a black 7″x 4″ piece from behind the bumper on the passenger side front quarter panel.
The Highway Patrol believes the vehicle involved may be a Ford F-150 or Ford F-250 from the early to mid 2000s. They also say a 1″ chrome-colored piece may be missing from the headlight assembly.
