ST. PAUL, Minn. – A bill passed Thursday in the Minnesota House increases penalties for drunken driving convictions.
The bill was in response to a DWI crash last year at Park Tavern in St. Louis Park that killed two people and injured nine on the patio.
“I do ask if anyone is listening to this. Please think twice about [drinking and driving],” Rep. Larry Craft of St. Louis Park told members. “It caused such a devastating hole in my community.”
The bill lengthens the license revocation period, adds an ignition interlock system to the offender’s car, and they would be required to undergo a treatment and rehabilitation program.
