JAMESTOWN, N.D. (KFGO) – The Jamestown Police Department has released the name of the officer who shot and killed a man outside a bar last week.
Sgt. Cory Beckman responded to a report of a man with a gun who was firing shots at a bar after he was kicked out for fighting.
When Sgt. Beckman arrived, he ordered the man to put the gun down, but the man refused. The department says the man put Beckman’s safety in jeopardy and Beckman shot him.
The man was taken to Jamestown Regional Medical Center where he died. His name has not been released.
Beckman is a five-year veteran of the Jamestown Police Department. He is a member of the James/Valley Special Operations Team, K-9 handler, and peer support team member.
Beckman is on standard paid administrative leave while the state BCI investigates the shooting.
