Jack Lunde of Fargo
They came to the “No Kings” rally in Fargo last weekend to rightfully voice their anger and frustration as to what’s happening in this country because of Donald Trump and his enablers. They worry about the cost of living, the attacks on our democracy, and the loss of humanity.
However, with the midterm elections coming up, they also have hope for better days ahead.

Heidi Dyrstad of Fargo
“Donald Trump is doing everything he can to destroy this country,” Jack Lunde of Fargo told me. “I am worried about our democracy. I’m concerned we are slowly sliding into an authoritarian government, and we won’t be able to pull ourselves back.”
Lunde says people can see the damage that Trump has caused.
“He has hired fools like Pete Hegseth, he’s damaged the earth, he’s imposed unnecessary tariffs, and he repeats lies that people believe,” Lunde said.
“We are fighting corruption, fascism, and the fall of our democracy,” Heidi Dyrstad of Fargo told me. “I’m very concerned. I’m glad we are speaking out, but can’t believe we have to.”

Heidi Anderson of Moorhead
Dyrstad is very worried about the less fortunate.
“I’ve never seen a bigger gap of so many people in need. The division of haves and have-nots,” she said. “It’s a direct result of this administration and the Republicans in Congress.”
“The president is racist, homophobic and a criminal,” Heidi Anderson of Moorhead told me. “It’s disgusting that Trump has made so much money from being in office. We need to do a lot better. My message is love wins.”

Rhonda Ketterling of Fargo at “No Kings” rally
“The current king is corrupt and has made billions of dollars off his presidency,” Rhonda Ketterling of Fargo told me. “I detest his racism. He sounds like a bully on the school yard.”
Ketterling says she has talked to many people in Europe, and what’s happening now in the U.S. is an embarrassment.
“People ask what happened to us. People used to look up to us and how we promoted democracy. Not anymore,” Ketterling said. “Our members of Congress, such as Cramer, Hoeven and Fedorchak don’t stand up to him. It’s pathetic.”
Everyone I talked to recognized that these are the most crucial midterm elections in our lifetimes.
“We have an opportunity to reign in some of the corruption and hate,” Lunde said.
“We need to make our voices heard and get out the vote,” Dyrstad said. “This is the most important election. We’re talking about our democracy.”
“This is a very important election,” Ketterling said. “Hopefully, we can take back Congress, and impeach and convict Trump. Hopefully, Democrats can make a big difference with health care, housing, the war in Iran, and make things more affordable.”
It’s clear that we need some check on Donald Trump’s unlimited abuse of power. Whether it be the inhumanity of ICE, starting a foolish war, raising our cost of living, wasting billions of taxpayer dollars on unapproved vanity projects, exploding the national debt, supporting the murderous thug Vladimir Putin, ignoring court rulings, trying to prevent free and fair elections, profiting from the presidency, severely cutting Medicaid, food stamps and Obamacare, or severely damaging our environment, it’s imperative that Democrats gain control of at least one House of Congress, to try to restore what’s left of American values.
–You would think that candidates running for office would publicly let their positions be known to the voters. You would especially think that in a race where there are no candidate forums, and there is controversy in the area they would be serving, such as the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton School District.

Timothy Lamb
Nevertheless, only one of the four candidates running for the DGF School Board answered or returned my phone calls. That candidate is Travis Jenson. He was friendly, but played things close to the vest.
–Fargo residents should vote yes to extend the school district’s 110-mill excess levy. If it’s defeated, this would have a severe impact on Fargo schools. It would mean millions of dollars in budget cuts. That would mean larger class sizes, fewer teachers, elimination of some courses, and cuts to athletics.
A yes vote means you want to maintain the high quality of education in the Fargo schools.

Rob Kupec (D-Moorhead)
–Kudos to North Dakota Attorney General candidate Timothy Lamb for calling for an outside independent counsel to investigate the Ray Holmberg case. Lamb appropriately calls the Holmberg matter, North Dakota’s version of the Epstein scandal. With all of the deleted emails sent to former North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem (who died in office), some from Holmberg, there are a lot of unanswered questions.
–It was inappropriate for Moorhead City Council candidate Sarah Opitz to use a former Moorhead fire truck in her campaign.

–In all my years of political reporting, I have never seen a candidate for the state legislature as viciously targeted as Moorhead’s Rob Kupec. The $1 million being spent in that race is obscene. The accusations against Kupec are lies and distortions.
Kupec is a good man, who has fought hard to provide a better life for Minnesotans. Residents of his northwest Minnesota district would be smart to re-elect him.
