Bill Lucas, one of my greatest friends and a mentor, makes these amazing treats during the holiday season every year. He delivers a handful and I constantly get guests ask “WHAT ARE THOSE?!?!”
Bill was the guest host on It Takes Two this last week and we featured this recipe for our Foodie Friday. Here is the recipe – be warned…it is hard to eat just one.
Here is the recipe!
First, the bourbon balls
1/2 Cup Butter or Margarine (softened)
3 Tablespoons Sweetened Condensed Milk (they suggest Eagle Brand)
1/3 Cup Bourbon Whiskey
7 1/2 Cups Powdered Sugar (a 2lb bag)
Put the powdered sugar in a mixing bowl. Make a hollow in the center and put the rest of the ingredients into the hollow. Stir and knead using more sugar if needed to make candy dough. Form into balls (about the size of a heaping teaspoon of dough for each ball). Chill until firm.
Second, the dipping chocolate
1 12 oz package of semi-sweet chocolate morsels
2 Tablespoons melted parafin
Melt the chocolate and parafin using a double boiler. Melt SLOWLY.
Use a toothpick to pick up a bourbon ball and then dip into the warm chocolate. Remove the toothpick by pressing a nut (such as a pecan) onto the top of the bourbon ball while pulling out the toothpick. Let set until chocolate is hard and enjoy!
