Lisa Demuth (R-Minn.)
MINNESOTA (KFGO) – Republican candidate for Minnesota Governor Lisa Demuth unveils her public safety plan that includes three strikes for violent crimes.
“We want to make sure increased sentences, no early release and consecutive sentences for criminals who commit a third or subsequent violent crime. That’s holding criminals accountable,” Demuth said.
Demuth’s plan would increase penalties for drivers who flee police and revoke their drivers license if they’re convicted.
It also calls for electronic monitoring for people charged with a crime, but are released without bail before trial.
If elected, Demuth would direct local government aid to first go toward basic services like police. The funding comes from taxpayers statewide and helps cities cover essential services and infrastructure when it exceeds their local property tax base capacity.
“Taxpayers from the northernmost part of our state should not be paying for woke policies in Minneapolis,” Demuth said. “A safe Minneapolis benefits our entire state.”
Demuth’s plan also calls for 20 year prison sentences for those convicted of embezzling more than $100,000 in public money and requires restitution.
