(KNFL/KFGO) – Fargo-Moorhead resumed their trek towards the postseason on the right foot in a tight game against Winnipeg at Newman Outdoor Field. The RedHawks controlled the game from as early as the 2nd, fighting off a return effort from their opponents, the Goldeyes. Parker Harm would earn the starting nod for the home side, as he went arm-to-arm with Landen Bourassa.
After a scoreless first inning, the RedHawks would get it started on the board in the 2nd, as Matt Kroon would make it home following a Juan Fernandez line drive to right field. One run wouldn’t be enough for Fargo-Moorhead and Brian Fuentes in the 2nd, as he brought in Tucupita Marcano with an RBI single.
Jose Sermo, with no surprise towards the home fans, would invite himself to the party in the 3rd inning, launching a solo home run over the head of the reeling right fielder, Max Murphy. Sermo’s 32nd homer of the year, extending his RedHawks single season record.
A rebuttal from Winnipeg would come in the 7th inning by way of Ray-Patrick Didder running in following a fielder’s choice ruling.
The decisive moment in the game would come at the top of the 8th inning, as Jiandido Tromp would earn a hit and Peyton Holt would reach first following a dropped third strike. With his back against the wall, needing a crucial 3rd out with a full count, relief pitcher Mason Pelio would deliver a clutch final strike to send Winnipeg back to their dugouts to head into the bottom of the 8th, handing Fargo-Moorhead a sizeable advantage.
Tyler Jeans would earn his 16th save on the season for the RedHawks, adding their 50th tally into the win column as they creep towards what would potentially be their 6th consecutive playoff berth.
RedHawks starter Parker Harm would serve 6.0 innings, allowing no runs on 7 hits, walking 4 batters and striking out the same amount. Harm would be credited with the win.
Landen Bourassa pitched 6.0 innings as well, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits, and struck out 6 for the Goldeyes. Bourassa would be marked down for the loss.
