Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has announced North Dakota Agricultural Products Utilization Commission awards for seven projects. The awards totaling $752,490 were approved at the APUC quarterly meeting July 20-21 in Medora.
Goehring also announced Agriculture Diversification and Development Fund awards for five projects. The awards totaling $1.7 million were approved at the ADD quarterly meeting July 20 in Medora.
APUC is a program of the North Dakota Department of Agriculture that administers grant programs for research and development of new and expanded uses for North Dakota agricultural products which support the development of concepts and products that support our rural communities and agriculture operations.
The ADD Fund is administered by the North Dakota Department of Agriculture. The fund was created to support new or expanding value-added-agriculture businesses that demonstrate financial feasibility, enhance profitability for the industry, create jobs, and grow North Dakota’s economy.
The following received approval:
- 701x Inc. received a prototype development and technology grant for $250,000 to establish a genomic DNA processing laboratory.
- G2 Farms received a nature-based agritourism grant for $3,000 to build a new hard-sided greenhouse to provide hands-on experience to students and to host events.
- Grand River Honey Co. received a farm diversification grant for $188,300 for equipment, marketing and construction costs to establish a honey packaging and processing facility to bottle, package, store and distribute local honey.
- JML Soaps, LLC received a nature-based agritourism grant for $40,000 to purchase a production facility to create nontoxic skincare products using locally sourced ingredients and to provide education.
- Legendary Greens received a marketing and utilization grant for $40,000 to upgrade their commercial kitchen through the purchase of equipment, increasing efficiency and expanding their business.
- Minn-Dak Farmers Coop. received a prototype development and technology grant for $165,000 to expand operational deployment by advancing their autonomous transportation framework supporting North Dakota agriculture.
- North Dakota State University received a basic and applied research grant for $66,190 to evaluate root traits of Kernza perennial cereal grain varieties and intermediate wheatgrass.
- Schweitzer’s Gourmet Meats LLC received $300,000 to procure equipment and support construction to expand their meat processing facility.
- Anchor Ingredients Co., LLC received $500,000 to procure and install equipment to add grain processing capabilities at the Hatton facility.
- Tharaldson Ethanol Plant I, LLC received $500,000 to procure and install equipment to improve corn oil recovery efficiency.
- Three Farm Daughters LLC received $100,000 to establish a co-packing facility to package their products as well as provide co-packing services for other regional food companies.
- Jessy Meyer received $300,000 to procure an alfalfa pelleting machine that will process hay into pellets for livestock.
Applications for the next meeting must be received by Oct. 1, 2026.
