VALLEY CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com/KFGO) – South Central Transit will discontinue its Medicaid and Medicaid waiver transportation services starting Tuesday, eliminating a key travel option for residents across 12 central and eastern North Dakota counties.
The Valley City-based transit provider said the decision stems from new regulations requiring all 62 of its drivers to obtain individual National Provider Numbers. System officials said they were unable to meet the requirement, and a request for a regulatory waiver was denied.
Pat Hansen, director of South Central Adult Services, said many local families depend on the service for critical transportation needs. Outside of Handi-Wheels, which operates exclusively within the city limits of Fargo and West Fargo, South Central Transit was the sole Medicaid transportation provider operating east of Bismarck.
The service cancellation affects riders in the following locations:
-
Barnes County
-
LaMoure County
-
Foster County
-
Logan County
-
McIntosh County
-
Griggs County
-
Emmons County
-
Nelson County
-
Ramsey County
-
Eddy County
-
Stutsman County
-
Rural Grand Forks County
Affected Medicaid clients are urged to contact their local Human Service Zone office or call North Dakota Medicaid directly to explore alternative travel options.
