WEST FARGO, ND (KFGO) – The West Fargo Fire Department has promoted 17-year fire service veteran Matt Berg to deputy fire chief of internal services.
Berg was selected following a nationwide search that considered both internal and external candidates. In his new role, he will oversee facility operations, fleet management, and logistics to maintain department readiness and safety.
“This position works closely with the executive management team and is crucial to the overall success of our department,” West Fargo Fire Chief Dan Fuller said. “Chief Berg was selected based on his extensive years of dedication to the fire service and overall breadth of knowledge. I know Chief Berg will continue to make our department proud.”
An Edmore, North Dakota native, Berg joined the West Fargo Fire Department in 2020. Before coming to West Fargo, he spent 11 years serving with the Devils Lake Fire Department and Minot Fire Department.
During his time in West Fargo, Berg served as training chief, where he managed department certification and professional development programs. He was instrumental in establishing the regional Metro Recruit Academy and led 14 academy classes.
Berg was named West Fargo’s Firefighter of the Year in 2023.
Berg holds a bachelor’s degree in fire administration from Columbia Southern University, as well as degrees in fire technology and fire protection from Northland Technical Community College. He is currently enrolled in the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy and holds numerous professional certifications, including emergency medical technician (EMT) and live fire instructor.
