FARGO (KFGO) — Two juveniles have been arrested and multiple stolen handguns have been recovered in connection to a burglary at the Outdoorsman last week.
Fargo Police say surveillance video taken around 4 a.m. last Thursday, July 9, shows a stolen SUV backing into the entrance of the sporting goods store. Two suspects went inside, shattered a display case, and put a total of 16 handguns into bags. Police say the entire incident lasted only about a minute.
Police say the suspects abandoned the stolen vehicle near the scene, and fled in a second stolen vehicle that was staged nearby.
Investigators determined the first stolen vehicle’s ignition had been damaged, which they say is part of a nationwide pattern thieves use to steal Hyundai and Kia vehicles.
Detectives used a cell phone left behind at the scene, blood on broken glass fragment and other evidence to identify several juveniles as suspects within hours of the crime.
Police say the Metro Area Street Crimes Unit stopped a vehicle Friday afternoon, and a 14-year-old boy was arrested in connection to the theft. Officers found four of the stolen handguns in the boy’s backpack. Later Friday afternoon, investigators served two search warrants at two separate residences. Four more stolen handguns were recovered. Officers also arrested a 15-year-old boy.
Both teens are being held for burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and firearms, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a minor.
Fargo Police say the investigation is still active, and officers are working to find the remaining missing guns. Anyone with information is asked to contact The Fargo Police Department at 701-241-5777. Anonymous tips can be submitted by texting keyword FARGOPD and the tip to 847411.
