BISMARCK, ND – (KFGO) More than $32 million in federal funding has been awarded to 11 airport infrastructure projects across North Dakota, U.S. Senators John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer announced Thursday.
The grants, distributed through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program for fiscal year 2026, aim to modernize runways, update safety features, and upgrade terminal areas statewide.
Among the largest allocations is $4 million designated for Hector International Airport in Fargo. The funds will be used to reconstruct the airport’s terminal apron.
Hoeven, a member of the Senate Transportation Appropriations Committee, said the infrastructure investments are vital to sustaining the state’s economic and community growth.
“These investments in our airports are critical to improving safety, increasing efficiency and meeting the growing demand of communities across our state,” Hoeven said in a news release. “Reliable airport infrastructure is essential to keeping North Dakota connected, and these projects will help strengthen our transportation network for years to come.”
The largest individual grants in the package were awarded to Bismarck Municipal Airport, which will receive $8.8 million for runway, taxiway, and lighting rehabilitation, and Dickinson Theodore Roosevelt Regional Airport, which was awarded $8.6 million to construct a terminal apron and new taxiways.
