Dr. Rod Flanigan (North Dakota State College of Science)
WAHPETON, ND (KFGO) – The North Dakota State College of Science will undergo an accelerated leadership transition next week ahead of the upcoming academic year and legislative session, higher education officials announced Tuesday.
North Dakota University System Commissioner Brent Sanford said campus President Rod Flanigan will transition to administrative leave effective July 1. Flanigan previously announced his retirement effective Dec. 31.
Lisa Karch has been appointed interim president and will assume leadership of the college no later than July 1 to ensure continuity, Sanford said.
The timing of the mid-summer transition is intended to provide stable leadership as the institution heads into fall enrollment and prepares for the 2027 state legislative session.
“During President Flanigan’s tenure the college has seen significant enrollment growth, improved financial standing, and expanded academic programming that has strengthened NDSCS’ position in serving the workforce needs of North Dakota,” Sanford said in a statement.
Flanigan will remain available to support the leadership transition through the end of his contract on Dec. 31, according to officials.
