FOSSTON, MN (KFGO) – A 22-year-old man was arrested Monday afternoon after a shooting at a Fosston apartment complex left another man seriously injured, police said.
Cory Burnette Jr., of Fosston, was booked into the Northwest Regional Correctional Center in Crookston on probable cause of second-degree assault and discharge of a firearm.
Officers responded to a 911 call reporting a disturbance potentially involving a gun at an apartment complex on the 300 block of Mark Avenue at approximately 3:20 p.m., according to the Fosston Police Department.
Upon arrival, officers learned that a man had been shot inside one of the apartments. The victim had already been transported by a private party to Essentia Health-Fosston before law enforcement arrived. He was subsequently flown by air ambulance to Essentia Health in Fargo, North Dakota, where he continues to receive treatment. His current condition is unknown.
Responding officers entered the apartment and located Burnette, who was taken into custody without incident, police said.
No other injuries were reported. Authorities said investigators are interviewing witnesses but do not believe there is any ongoing danger to the public.
The Fosston Police Department is leading the active investigation. They are being assisted by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Minnesota State Patrol.
