Reports from Island Lake indicate that fishing is good with many anglers seeing success. As a reminder starting July 1, 2026, operators 26 years and younger must possess a valid watercraft operator’s permit for motorboats and personal watercraft.

CO Nick Bruesewitz (Karlstad) spent the week focusing on angling activity. Enforcement action was taken for illegal-slot-sized northern pike, angling with an extra line, and various watercraft violations. Nuisance-animal calls were handled throughout the week.CO Tony Hams (Warroad North) spent the week checking area anglers and following up with various complaints. Violations encountered were angling with extra lines.
CO Coby Fontes (Warroad South) spent the week patrolling Lake of the Woods. Enforcement action was taken for an overlimit, illegal-length fish, and operating an unregistered watercraft.
CO Bobby Stringer (Thief River Falls West) reports an active week as residents venture towards the Red Lake River for recreation. Multiple kayaks and leisure watercraft frequented the 8th Street access, and most docks were filled with anglers as the license holiday ends. Stringer investigated a severe agricultural dumping case, focused on recreational vehicles, and fielded multiple bears in tree complaints. Enforcement actions for the week included a variety of ATV violations.
CO Sarah Jahn (Thief River Falls East) spent time monitoring area angling and recreational activity. Several nuisance-animal complaints were handled.
CO Nicholas Prachar (Blackduck #1) reports increased boating activity with the recent warm weather. Time was spent patrolling for boat safety and ATV activity.

District 2 – Bemidji area

CO Tom Hutchins (Crookston) reports checking anglers and boaters this week. Time was also spent addressing various wildlife-related complaints.
CO Jamus Veit (Bemidji #1) spent the week patrolling for sport fishing and recreational vehicle activity. Additional time was spent addressing wildlife/nuisance-animal complaints. Enforcement action was taken for operating an unauthorized motor vehicle on ATV trail, failure to display valid ATV registration, and attempting to place water-related equipment in the water with invasive species attached.
CO Andrew Goodman (Perham) worked boating, angling, and ATV enforcement throughout the week. Activity on the water remains high, as does regulation compliance. Off-road vehicle enforcement remains a priority, with trespass and unsafe operation complaints continuing to be fielded. Additional time was spent on AIS enforcement and speaking with AIS inspectors.
CO Jake Swedberg (Detroit Lakes) spent the week checking anglers and boaters around the Detroit Lakes area. Swedberg also spent time checking on minnow and leech trapping activity.
CO Curtis Jepson (Osage) patrolled area state forests and conducted boating and angling enforcement throughout the week. Anglers reported good success, with numerous panfish observed in livewells. Boating safety equipment violations were among the most common issues encountered. Jepson also handled several nuisance-animal complaints during the week.
CO Angela Warren (Mahnomen) spent time on angling and boating activities. AIS compliance checks were performed, leeching activity was monitored, and patrol was conducted for ATV activity. Questions about ducklings and deceased animals were answered. People are reminded that most baby animals are not abandoned and that their mother will return.
CO Bill Landmark (Moorhead) spent the week responding to nuisance- and miscellaneous wildlife-related calls and conducting follow up on a fire investigation. Bears are becoming more prevalent and visible. Homeowners are encouraged to lock up any food and try methods of deterrence to discourage bears from their yards. A wolf-depredation case was also investigated.
CO Grey Corbus (Pelican Rapids) spent the week monitoring ATV, boating, and fishing activity, as well as assisting county and state local government units with public waters and wetland investigations. Enforcement action was taken for ATV seatbelt and helmet violations, for several different boating violations, and for an illegal-length fish.
CO Brady Manteufel (Bagley) addressed ATV violations this week, which included operation with no lights on and no helmets on youth operators and passengers. Anglers were checked and an illegal-length northern pike was addressed. Miscellaneous questions about wildlife were also answered.
CO Ryan Schaefer (Bemidji #2) spent this past week checking local anglers and monitoring ATV activity. Positive reports of panfish, bass, and northern pike being caught were consistent on area lakes. Schaefer issued several nuisance-beaver permits to area trappers. He also answered various wildlife-related questions and ATV laws questions from the public.
District 3 – Fergus Falls area

CO Hanna Wood (Fergus Falls) spent the week focused on boating and recreational vehicle enforcement. Follow up on cases and some commercial enforcement were worked. She also put on two ATV safety classes.
CO Tricia Plautz (Henning) continues to work with Wildlife staff on a nuisance deer in the area. Aquatic vegetation violations were handled, and complaints were received and investigated on potential fish overlimits and fishing with extra lines.
CO Ryuan Brown (Elbow Lake) reports checking angling and boating enforcement during the week. Brown also spoke at two ATV safety classes over the weekend, with a lot of eager youth riders ready to hit the trails. Fishing success has improved over recent weeks.
CO Shane Osborne (Evansville) checked anglers, boaters and ATV riders. Assistance was provided to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on locating an elderly male. Calls were received about public boat access, trespass, and dogs running at large.
CO Jake Homan (Alexandria) spent the week patrolling Douglas County for boating and angling activities. Time was spent following up on ongoing cases and assisting the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office with a missing individual. Enforcement action was taken for a variety of boating violations.
CO Felicia Znajda (Osakis) worked her area lakes over the busy weekend for angling and boating safety enforcement. Great weather with an even better fishing bite resulted in happy anglers. She received several anonymous fishing related complaints that were investigated and assisted other officers on follow up from deer-season cases. She reports that watercraft-registration violations were a theme over the weekend.
CO Emily Douvier (Morris) reports working fishing and recreational enforcement. Various wildlife-related complaints were fielded and assistance was provided for an area ATV safety course.
CO Andrew Ladzinski (Glenwood) dedicated his time to angling and boating enforcement. With the warmer weather, water temperatures have risen and sparked a good bite. Enforcement action was taken for watercraft equipment violations, registration violations, and children not wearing life jackets while underway. Questions were answered on the new electronic licensing app.

CO Michael Cross (Lake George) worked angling and off-highway vehicle traffic and took numerous complaints and calls for service in the area. Cross saw steady activity on the water and trails throughout the week.
CO Patrick McGowan (Cass Lake) patrolled area lakes for angling and boating activities. Enforcement action was taken for numerous boating violations and an overlimit of walleyes.
CO Jack Lien (Walker) patrolled the woods and county roads with an ATV and conducted a few fish checks around shore angling activity. Lien gave a law and ethics talk to roughly 90 kids at three different ATV safety courses on Saturday. Teaching and presenting to youth are one of Lien’s favorite parts of the job.
