Grant C. Johnson, 61, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026, in his home.
Grant Clyde Johnson was born on November 11, 1964, to LeRoy and Dorothy (Raedeke) Johnson, in Alexandria, MN. Grant was raised in Alexandria, where he graduated from high school in 1983. After high school he went on to Alexandia Technical College. Grant was always working on his family’s farm, doing rock picking and any task that he could. Grant went on to work at Case New Holland where he stayed for 25 years.
Grant was a man of few words. He had a kind heart and deep down he was a softie who loved hard. He loved his friends and family, especially his dogs. He was the biggest family man. Family meant everything to him. He would be the first to jump in and help even before it was needed. Yet accepting help? That was about as easy as pulling teeth from an elephant. The pride he felt for his family and friends was immeasurable. His biggest smile happened when he was talking about them. To him, coffee was its own food group. He spent a lot of time working on cars or fixing anything he could find. Sometimes he would break something just so he could fix it.
He is survived by his children: Alissa Johnson, California; Jonathan (Albert) Steiger, Wahpeton ND; and Courtney Westlund, Wenatchee, WA; Siblings: Diane (Shel) Rosburg of Mora, MN; Clark (Pam) Johnson of Elk River, MN and Kay Cather of Fredericksburg, VA; Nieces: Sarah Rosburg, Samantha Rosburg; Nephews: William Cather, and Seth (Courtney) Strandlund; Step Siblings: Jim (Cheryl)Gaebel , David (Dori) Gaebel, Karen Gaebel, Sheryl (Dalen) Kittelson; numerous cousins and relatives; and lifelong friend, David Schoff and his son, Wyatt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Dorothy; brother-in-law, Michael Cather; step-mother, Marge Gaebel; and countless aunts and uncles.
Grant’s Celebration of Life will be scheduled later in the summer.
