Longtime KFGO News Director and friend Paul Jurgens has announced his retirement from KFGO. After spending 43 years in the broadcast business Jurgie is calling it quits. And while we congratulate him on a great career, we can’t help but feel sad.
Jurgie is the best there is, and in my broadcast career, the best there ever will be. From Edward R. Murrow to Peabody to Marconi, he and his team have won it all. And he deserved them. The first class work he has done has set a standard for journalists across the nation.
My father was the first one to introduce me to KFGO. If you went in his pickup, you were going to hear it. If you entered our home, you would hear it there too. The main reason was for the news. If someone said there was an accident or storm, you’d rush to KFGO to find out. All because of people like Jurgie.
To my mentor and friend, I offer congratulations and thank you. Enjoy those grandkids and all their games. And remember, when you’re sleeping in, you’ll have no excuse for not mowing the yard at the lake.
Job well done my friend and it was good riding with you.
Joel
