The Minnesota Twins edged out the Milwaukee Brewers in a 5-4 Sunday thriller at Target Field, with the scoring kicking off early in the bottom of the first inning when Kody Clemens hit a sharp line-drive double to right field to drive home Austin Martin. The Brewers quickly answered in the top of the second as Sal Frelick lined an RBI double to right, scoring Jake Bauers to tie the game. Minnesota recaptured the lead in the bottom of the third when Clemens struck again with a deep double to left; the play scored Ryan Jeffers, and Clemens himself crossed home plate following a throwing error by Milwaukee shortstop Joey Ortiz. The Brewers chipped away at the lead in the top of the fourth with a solo home run by Garrett Mitchell off Bailey Ober, and they tied the game up 3-3 in the top of the fifth via a solo blast from Christian Yelich. The tie was short-lived, however, as Ryan Jeffers launched a go-ahead solo home run to left field in the bottom of the fifth to put the Twins back on top. Minnesota added a crucial insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on a Victor Caratini sacrifice fly that brought home Luke Keaschall. That run proved necessary in the top of the ninth when Jake Bauers hit a sharp RBI single to right to bring the Brewers within one, but the Twins closed the door to secure the victory. Bailey Ober (5-2) earned the win after battling through 5.0 innings, while Milwaukee’s reliever took the loss, and Luis García locked down his second save of the season to cap off the afternoon.
