(KFGO/KNFL) – FM RedHawks’ Jake Dykhoff, the 2025 American Association Pitcher of the Year, took the mound Saturday night and did not disappoint. Dykhoff pitched 6 innings giving up 2 unearned runs, 3 hits, 3 walks, with 11 strikeouts. The RedHawks’ hitters would put together 14 runs off 17 hits including five home runs.
In the first the RedHawks would take a 3-0 lead when Matt Kroon hit a three run home run off of Cleburne starting pitcher Luke Short. Cleburne would score one run in the bottom of the first inning on a Juan Fernandez throwing error. In the third inning Jesus Lujano would get a RBI ground out putting the RedHawks up 4-1.
In the 6th inning with the RedHawks up 6-2, Juan Fernandez would hit his first home run of the season making in 7-2. Jose Sermo would hit his second home run of the year to make it 8-2. Jake Dykhoff would leave the game after the bottom of the 6th with 11 strikeouts, 3 walks, and 2 unearned runs.
In the 7th inning Juan Fernandez would get another RBI to make it 7-2 and Jose Sermo would hit a three-run home run, his second of the night and third of the year to make it 13-2 RedHawks. Juan Fernandez would go 3-6 with a HR and 2 RBI on the night. Jose Sermo would go 3-6 on the night with 2 HR and 4 RBI on the night.
The Cleburne Railroaders would score two more runs in the bottom of the 7th inning with a 2 RBI single by Brantley Bell to make it 13-4.
Dillon Thomas would repeat history tonight in the 9th. One year ago today, “Voice of the RedHawks” Jack Michaels’ lost his mother Marge. That night in Wisconsin, Dillon Thomas would hit a home run in honor of Marge. Thomas would do it again tonight and hit a Davis Smith 3-1 pitch over the wall to make it 14-4.
RedHawks’ Tyler Jones would shut it down in the bottom of the 9th by striking out the side. The RedHawks are now 3-0 on the season.
FM RedHawks would score 14 runs off 17 hits with 3 errors and 8 left on base.
Cleburne Railroaders would score 4 runs off 7 hits with 2 errors and 10 left on base.
Jake Dykhoff (1-0) was the winning pitcher and Luke Short (0-1) would get the loss.
The RedHawks continue the series versus the Cleburne Railroaders Sunday evening at 6:05pm.
