Louis John Burkhardsmeier was called to his heavenly home on April 28, 2026. Lou was born on October 11, 1952, to Tony and Louise Burkhardsmeier. He grew up with three sisters in Leeds, ND before moving to Minnewaukan, ND.
He attended Lake Region Junior College and University of North Dakota. He married Darlene Walker in 1979, making their home in Grand Forks, ND. They had three children, Brandi, Ashley and Adam. In 1992, they moved to Fargo, ND.
In his career, Lou was an entrepreneur. He had a truck repair shop, was a car and truck salesman, and he also sold insurance and farming equipment. He was a skilled painter and roofer; versatile problem solver and fixer. Lou loved hunting, baseball, painting, and spending time with his family.
He devoted his life to Jesus. He served at Bethel Evangelical Free Church where he helped lead Bible studies and was also involved in Bible Study Fellowship and Promise Keepers.
He leaves behind a loving family: his beloved wife, Darlene of Fargo; his three children—Brandi (Ron) DesMarais, Ashley (Mike) Friesen, and Adam Burkhardsmeier (Emily Smith); six treasured grandchildren—Kaitlyn, Olivia, Jacob, Isabelle, Sophia, and Charlotte DesMarais; four cherished bonus daughters—Jonix “Knight” Owino, Grace (Festus) Maina and their children, Curt and Anna, Cecilia Mutharia, Doreen “Cece” Odera and her son, David; three siblings, Cathy Burkhardsmeier, Mary Jo Burkhardsmeier, and Toni (Brad) Adam; and two nephews, Mike and Chris.
Lou was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Louise Burkhardsmeier.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, May 11, 2026, at Bethel Church in Fargo with visitation at 1:00 PM.
