Police on scene of shooting in Edina (WCCO Radio)
EDINA Minn. (WCCO/KFGO) – Dozens of officers from various agencies responded to a shooting in Edina Wednesday afternoon near Southdale Center due to an active incident later confirmed to be a shooting.
Edina Police Chief Todd Milburn confirmed one person was killed, and that nobody was in custody as of late Wednesday afternoon.
“When officers arrived, they found one victim with a gunshot wound,” Millburn said. “Despite life-saving measures, the victim died. The suspects ran away from the scene before officers arrived, and officers are still following up on leads.”
Milburn also said they’re asking that if anyone has any security footage, any surveillance, that they please reach out to the Edina Police Department. Milburn also confirmed they are looking for “more than one suspect.”
“All of a sudden we heard like three, four gunshots, looked outside, saw people running, cops pulling up super quick, probably less than like 5 minutes,” said Don, who works at Firestone next to Southdale. “Just looking over there, you can see like the white sheet covering the guy and a bunch of SWAT and CSI coming.”
The shooting occurred at a 39-unit facility that supports permanent housing for young adults 18 to 24.
Another witness said he heard three shots and saw a body with someone performing CPR.
Most surrounding businesses were immediately put in lockdown, but that has since been lifted.
