FINLEY, N.D. (KFGO) – The City of Finley says it could be into next week before residents will have drinkable water.
Last Friday, city leaders advised residents to not use any water from the tap after a water main leak led to low pressure.
The city says Dakota Rural Water believes it has the problem figured out and is working on pressurizing lines. If the lines stay pressurized and the system fills with water, tests will need to be done to make sure the water is safe.
If tests are positive, the city will flush the lines and move to a boil order. After that, there will be more testing and, if things progress positively, the water will be safe to drink and cook with.
The city says this may not be fully resolved until Friday at the soonest. If the lines do not hold pressure, the city says it’s back to square one.
An update is expected later Wednesday.
The city has been supplying residents with paper products and plastic ware, porta potties have been brought in, the Spirit Lake tribe donated pallets of bottled water, Mayville State University is offering locker rooms for showering, and the Salvation Army has provided meals during the emergency.
