BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO) — A Bismarck man is in jail after a standoff on the Grant Marsh Bridge over the Missouri River in Bismarck.
Police say the incident started when they were called to a CVS around 5:45 p.m. for a reported armed robbery. Staff told police a man threatened them with a knife and stole pills. A Bismarck officer located the suspect in a stolen pickup and pursued. The driver eventually got on I-94 and fled westbound.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol used spike strips to disable the vehicle on the bridge. After a 2-hour standoff, West Dakota SWAT officers were able to arrest 35-year-old Matthew Bruhn. He was brought to a hospital for a possible overdose and minor injuries.
Bruhn was later booked into the Burleigh Morton Detention Center for robbery, terrorizing, and possession of stolen property.
