FARGO (KFGO) – Fargo Salvation Army volunteers discovered four gold coins in red kettles around town Friday morning.
The Salvation Army says, with the current rate of gold at $4,357.50 an ounce, the donated coins are worth about $8,345.
“The coins are a beautiful gift, empowering The Salvation Army to meet the ever-growing needs of our community”, said Major Abe Tamayo, Corps Officer of the Fargo location.
The bell ringing season ends at 2:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Until then, the Salvation Army says some kettles remain vacant and they still need bell ringers. If you’d like to help, you can sign up at registertoring.com.
The Salvation Army’s overall Christmas campaign continues through Dec. 31.
The Fargo Salvation Army provides approximately 48,000 meals each year with daily breakfast and lunches served Monday through Friday.
More than 95,000 units of service are also provided each year, including services such as help with rent, utilities, medical and transportation.
