Horace Mann-Roosevelt Elementary School Principal Leandra Ostrom
FARGO (KFGO/KVRR) — The Fargo School Board has narrowed down its list of 29 possible names for the new northside elementary school to five.
The names include Unity and Martin Luther King, Jr., each with 170 votes, North Star with 186 votes, Horace Mann with 200 votes and the top vote-getter is Prairie Rose with 208.
Before the Board discussed and voted on the names, Horace Mann Roosevelt Elementary School Principal Leandra Ostrom presented the results of her polling of the students earlier in the day. The top-five from the students were the names the Board ultimately chose.
Rejected names included Roger Maris, Charlie Kirk, Giiwendinoog, and Fred Rogers.
The final name will be chosen at the board’s next meeting on Nov. 25.
The new school will consolidate Horace Mann–Roosevelt and Madison attendance areas and open in fall 2028.
