Effective Tuesday, November 11, MATBUS will begin to offer free rides to all veterans, regardless of disability status. Since 2009, the public transit system’s fare policy has included free rides for service-connected veterans, a status given to those injured during their military service.
Now, any veteran can ride free on MATBUS fixed routes when they show their veteran ID, and no further verification will be required. This free fare will continue year-round. The change will also reduce any potential confusion that could happen on the bus when only select veterans were included in the policy.
