Driver that hit and killed 9-year-old boy no longer employed by the City of Moorhead

MOORHEAD (KFGO KVRR) – The man who was driving a Moorhead Public Works vehicle that struck and killed a Moorhead boy in July is no longer employed by the city.

Victor Port, 64, of West Fargo was operating the truck when 9-year-old Adam Amin was hit while riding his bicycle at the corner of 14th St. and 40th Ave. S.

In response to an open records request from KVRR News, an email from Moorhead’s communications coordinator said Port’s last day of employment with the city was Wednesday, Sept. 3. But whether Port possessed a valid commercial driver license to operate a city-owned vehicle at the time remains unclear. The city won’t provide that information.

When specifically asked whether Port’s CDL was valid on July 31, the city provided the following response; “The City denies you data responsive to your request for the following reason: This data is nonpublic and not accessible to you pursuant to Minn. Stat. § 13.43, subd. 4.”

No charges have been filed. The incident remains under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol.
