MINNEAPOLIS – Service workers at the University of Minnesota are preparing to strike after rejecting the school’s final contract offer.
Teamsters Local 320 says more than 80% of its members voted against the deal, which included modest raises and bonuses.
The strike begins Monday night at the Crookston and Morris campuses and expands Tuesday to the Twin Cities, Duluth, and other locations. About 1,400 workers are involved, janitors, food service staff, mechanics, and others.
The union is pushing for higher pay and more substantial benefits, saying many workers earn well below the state median. The university says it’s facing budget pressures, but is working to keep essential services running.
