Frank Kasowski, 92, of Mapleton, ND, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Bethany Homes on University, Fargo.
Born in 1933 to Albert and Emily Kasowski, Frank grew up on the family farm near Mapleton, ND, the 10th of 11 children. The farmhouse where he was born and raised still stands today, filled with treasured memories and history. He graduated from Central Cass High School in 1951.
From 1953–1955, Frank proudly served his country in the United States Army, attaining the rank of SP4. Stationed in Japan, he often shared stories of his service and the friendships he formed during those years.
On November 26, 1955, Frank married the love of his life, Ruth Cockerill, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Casselton, ND. They were together from 8th grade until her passing in 2023. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and farming. They raised five children on the family farm, where Frank grew wheat, barley, sugar beets, soybeans, and potatoes. Farming was not just his livelihood, but a lifelong passion—he loved checking on the crops and staying close to the land.
Frank also believed in serving his community. He held positions on the Mapleton School Board, Red River Valley Sugar Beet Board, Casselton Regional Airport Board, and the Harmony Township Board.
Though he lived a simple and peaceful life, Frank left a lasting impression. Friends and family visiting the farm often found him playing solitaire at the computer, reading the newspaper in his recliner, or watching his favorite westerns at the kitchen table. He could also be seen driving the golf cart around the yard, tending to small fixes—or occasionally getting the lawn mower stuck. Frank loved fishing, tinkering with farm equipment, cheering for the Vikings, and sharing the quiet beauty of the countryside he called home.
Frank was a man of few words, but when he spoke, it was important, and people listened. His family fondly remembers his wisdom, humor, and the steady example he set.
If you find yourself thinking of Frank, take a walk in the country. Feel the breeze, the sun, and the gentle rains. Breathe in the quietness of God’s creation. That was Frank’s kind of peace.
Frank is survived by his children: Frank Jr. (Linda) and their children Frank III, Robert, and Alex; Mark (Bonita) and their son Jeffrey; Steve (Sue) and their daughters Ashley and Lindsey; Mike Sr. and his children Mike Jr., Kevin, and Olivia; and Lisa (Brian) and their daughter Laura. He was blessed with 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Rita Anderson, and sisters-in-law Mary Lou Hejl and Joanne Hagemeister.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ruth; his parents, Albert and Emily; his siblings Mary Holzer, Beatrice Radzak, Agnes Bradish, Bernadette Radzak, Irene Rust, Teresa Hanson, Martha Seppi, John Kasowski, and infant brother Martin.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the special care takers who helped Frank remain at home on the farm for as long as possible: his dear friend Bud for countless coffee dates; Jeff, Joanne, Ryan, and Dan Seifert and family for their endless support; and the compassionate staff of Bethany Homes on University.
Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 1 PM, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Casselton, ND, with visitation one hour before the service.
Interment: St. Leo’s Catholic Cemetery, Casselton, ND.
