Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.)
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO WCCO) – Governor Tim Walz has confirmed that he’s calling a special session on gun legislation in response to the Annunciation Church and school shooting.
Walz visited an elementary school in Eagan on Tuesday to greet students and staff as they returned for a new school year.
He also held a press conference outside the elementary school to announce the impending special session officially. The governor said, “If Minnesota lets this moment slide and we determine that it’s ok for little ones to not be safe in a school environment or a church environment, then shame on us.”
Following the shooting, Democrats have called for an assault weapons ban and other gun control measures, while Republicans in Minnesota have accused them of politicizing the shooting.
