MOORHEAD (KFGO) – Moorhead Police say officers arrested a suspect wanted for a drive by shooting earlier this summer.
Around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, officers stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation in the 500 block of 32nd Avenue S. During the stop, they identified the 17-year-old passenger as a suspect in the June 19th shooting.
After the shooting that left another 17-year-old seriously injured, the 17-year-old was charged in Clay County and a nationwide arrest warrant had been issued for him for the shooting. Police say the two know each other.
During Tuesday’s traffic stop, the driver, 18-year-old Azarel Chappell of Moorhead, was also arrested for carrying a handgun without a permit and improper handling of a gun in a vehicle.
Police are still searching for a second suspect and the white Chrysler 300 they believe was involved in the shooting.
